A Salesforce certification costs $200 USD for the exam attempt plus $100 USD for each retake, and the study material itself is free, so most people pass for $200 to $300 USD in fees before tax.
The number that surprises people is not the exam fee. It is everything the fee does not buy: a portfolio, an interview, or a resume that reads like a tech resume. That gap is where career changers actually lose money, and it is what the rest of this page is about.

The real fees, line by line
A Salesforce certification has exactly two mandatory costs: the exam attempt and any retake. Everything else on this list is optional, and one of the largest line items, the learning itself, is free.
The credential most career changers start with is the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator. Note the name. Salesforce renamed it from "Salesforce Certified Administrator", and a great many blog posts, course pages, and resume bullets still use the retired form. Using the current name on your resume is free and takes ten seconds.

Two things follow from that table. First, nobody has to spend a dollar to start studying. Second, the difference between the cheapest path and an expensive one is not the fee schedule, it is how many attempts you need and how long you spend unemployed while you figure it out.
Three realistic total costs
The honest total depends on one variable you cannot know in advance, which is whether you pass on the first attempt. Here are the three outcomes that actually happen, priced.

That last risk line is real and we will not pretend otherwise. If you are the kind of person who finishes a free course without anyone asking, the $999 USD Certification Track is money you do not need to spend. Spend $200 USD, pass the exam, and put the difference toward nothing at all.
What the exam fee does not buy
The certification proves you can pass a Salesforce exam, and that is the whole of what it proves. Hiring managers know this, which is why a certificate on its own converts far worse than career changers expect.

This is the reframe the whole program runs on. Most career changers are not unqualified. They are untranslated. The exam fee buys the vocabulary. It does not do the translating, and no certificate at any price will.

Why the study material is genuinely free
Salesforce gives away the training, and this is the single most important cost fact on this page. Trailhead is Salesforce's own learning platform, it is free, and it includes hands-on practice environments where you configure a real org rather than watching someone else do it.
Anyone selling you a course while implying that the learning itself must be bought is selling against a free primary source. That includes us. The Blazer2Role Certification Track does not resell Trailhead content, it sells a study plan, practice exams, and weekly accountability check-ins, and the honest version of the pitch is that those things only have value if the reason you have not certified yet is that you keep stopping. If your reason is that you did not know where to start, Trailhead is free and it is right there.
Is the certification worth paying for
For a career changer targeting an entry-level Salesforce administrator role, $200 USD is a low price for a credential that gets your resume past keyword filters, and it is worth paying. The mistake is treating it as the finish line.
Two things worth knowing before you budget. First, admin roles are more competitive than they were a few years ago, so the certificate is closer to a floor than an advantage. Second, pay varies widely by metro and by whether the role is remote or onsite, so any single national salary figure you read is a summary of very different markets. For the underlying occupational data, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook is the primary source, and it is worth noting that for the closest occupational category it lists a bachelor's degree as the typical entry-level education. Blazer2Role's own position is that no computer science degree is required, and that BLS line is the strongest counterargument to it. You should know both.
