AIforce vs Agentforce: Differences and What to Learn First
- No computer science degree required
- Built for 3+ years of professional experience
- Instructor holds 10 industry certifications
Two weeks after Dreamforce, the most common question in our community is some version of "wait, is AIforce the new Agentforce?" It is a fair question. Salesforce launched AIforce in September 2026 with a lot of stage time, and the name sounds like a replacement. It is not one. This guide explains what each thing actually is, how they fit together, what is live versus beta, and which one a career changer should spend study hours on right now. For the full list of what was announced, see Dreamforce 2026: what it means for admins and career changers.
Agentforce is the engine: the AI agents that run inside Salesforce, built by admins with topics, actions, and prompts. AIforce is the new layer on top that lets people use Salesforce from outside it, in Claude, Slack, or a chat window, without opening the app. You configure Agentforce. You mostly experience AIforce. Learn Agentforce first because it has an established Salesforce certification and provides the agent foundation that AIforce experiences can call.

What Agentforce is
Agentforce is Salesforce's platform for building and running AI agents. An agent is a piece of software that reads a request in plain language, decides what to do, and does it using Salesforce data and automation. A service agent answers a customer's question about an order. A sales agent drafts a follow-up email from the opportunity record. An internal agent tells a rep which cases need attention today.
What matters for you: agents do not build themselves. Someone configures the topics an agent handles, the actions it can take (usually Flows), the prompt templates it uses, the data it is allowed to see, and the guardrails for what it refuses. That someone is an admin. Agentforce has been generally available since late 2024, ships with named agents for common jobs, and has its own certification, the Agentforce Specialist. If you want the exam details, read the Agentforce Specialist certification guide.
In short: Agentforce is a thing you build with. It lives inside Salesforce.
What AIforce is
AIforce is what Salesforce launched at Dreamforce in September 2026. In Salesforce's own framing, people "don't have to come to Salesforce to get work done," because Salesforce now "comes to them" in Claude, Slack, Lightning, or whatever tool they already use. Instead of navigating fixed page layouts, a user describes what they need and the interface assembles itself around the answer.
Technically, AIforce is not a new product you open. It is a layer that sits on top of the existing stack, bringing Data 360, Customer 360, and Agentforce to any AI interface. It has four named pieces:
- Claudeforce: Salesforce in Claude through a prebuilt MCP server with 37 sales skills. Salesforce lists it as available to customers in beta.
- Slackforce: Salesforce context and live data inside Slack. Salesforce listed Slackforce as generally available in October 2026.
- Agentforce Coworker: an AI teammate inside Salesforce that works under existing permissions and business rules. Salesforce lists Coworker as generally available.
- The Headless Toolkit: the plumbing underneath. MCPs, APIs, plug-ins, and skills that expose the platform to any AI front end.
In short: AIforce is a thing you use. It lives wherever you are.
Side by side
| Agentforce | AIforce | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Platform for building and running AI agents | Interface layer that brings Salesforce into external AI tools |
| Where it lives | Inside Salesforce | Claude, Slack, Lightning, any AI front end |
| Who touches it most | Admins, developers, consultants (build it) | End users: reps, service agents, managers (use it) |
| Core skills | Topics, actions, Flow, prompt templates, permission sets, Data Cloud grounding | MCP, skills, Slack surfaces, knowing which agent to invoke |
| Since | Late 2024, GA | September 2026; mixed GA / beta / pilot |
| Certification | Salesforce Certified Agentforce Specialist | No separately listed AIforce certification as of October 17, 2026 |
| Depends on | Data 360, Flow, platform security | Agentforce and everything under it |
The row that matters most is the last one. AIforce cannot answer a question in Claude unless an agent, a permission set, and clean data exist behind it. Every AIforce demo at Dreamforce ran on Agentforce configuration someone did first.
What is live, beta, and pilot
Announcements and availability are different things. As of the end of September 2026:
- Generally available: Agentforce Coworker. Salesforce also listed Slackforce as GA in October 2026.
- Beta: Claudeforce (Salesforce in Claude).
- Planned availability: Salesforce announced Hunter for November 2026. Product timing can change, so check the linked Salesforce announcement before making implementation plans.
Why this matters for study planning: Salesforce currently offers the Agentforce Specialist certification. AIforce does not have a separately listed Salesforce certification as of October 17, 2026, so learners should build Agentforce fundamentals first and verify the current credential catalog before scheduling an exam.
What to learn first if you are changing careers
Here is the order we recommend to members, and the reason for each step.
- Administrator fundamentals. Objects, fields, permission sets, Flow, reports. Both Agentforce and AIforce sit on this. Skip it and neither makes sense. If you are still deciding on a first exam, which Salesforce certification first in 2026 covers it.
- Agentforce, hands-on. Build one service agent in a free Developer Edition org: two topics, one standard action, one custom Flow action, one prompt template. This is the single most valuable thing you can do for your resume this quarter, and it is the core of the Agentforce Specialist exam.
- Agentforce Specialist certification. Six to eight weeks after Administrator. It's the credential that shows an employer you can build and test an agent, which is the skill this guide recommends adding next.
- AIforce, as a user. Once you have an agent running, try it from the outside: turn on Agentforce Coworker in your dev org, test the Claude beta if you have access, look at a Slackforce surface. You do not need to master it. You need to be able to say in an interview, "I built the agent, and here is how a rep would use it from Slack." That sentence is worth more than any AIforce badge that does not exist yet.
- Monitor the official credential catalog. Salesforce can update certification names and exam outlines. Check Trailhead Academy for current options rather than planning around an unannounced exam.
One more note. AIforce is the first Salesforce launch that explicitly moves work out of the Salesforce UI. Some people read that as "admins matter less." The opposite is true. When users stop seeing page layouts, the only thing between them and a wrong answer is the configuration underneath. That configuration is the admin's job, and it just got more important, not less. If you are wondering whether the whole platform is still worth the effort, is Salesforce still worth learning in 2026 makes the longer case.
Questions people ask
Is AIforce replacing Agentforce?
No. AIforce is a layer on top of Agentforce. Salesforce describes it as bringing Data 360, Customer 360, and Agentforce to any AI interface. The agents are still Agentforce.
Is there an AIforce certification?
Salesforce does not list a separate AIforce certification as of October 17, 2026. The current related credential is Salesforce Certified Agentforce Specialist. Check Trailhead Academy for the latest catalog.
Can I use AIforce without Agentforce?
Parts of it, like basic search in Agentforce Coworker, work with standard data. Anything useful, like routing a task or answering a customer, needs an agent configured underneath.
What is Claudeforce?
Salesforce running inside Claude through an MCP server, with 37 prebuilt sales skills and a zero-data-retention model. It is in open beta.
What is Koa?
Salesforce announced Koa as a CRM reasoning model. Check Salesforce's current product documentation for availability before relying on it in a study or implementation plan.
Should a career changer mention AIforce in interviews?
Yes, briefly, after explaining an agent you built. Connecting the agent configuration to how a user reaches it from Salesforce, Slack, or Claude demonstrates an understanding of both layers.
